PhilHealth and the Provincial Govt. of Negros Occidental, united in ensuring health coverage for Negrenses May 18, 2012

THE Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has renewed the partnership with the local government of Negros Occidental, through the leadership of Governor Alfredo G. Marañon, in providing the health insurance coverage in the province.

Despite the fact that the LGUs had to fully shoulder the annual premium rates for each family that they were sponsoring into the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP) , Marañon and all 31 mayors of Negros Occidental agreed to renew the health insurance coverage of 165,000 indigent families, after they agreed with PhilHealth on the implementation of a moratorium on the premium increase for the renewal of the indigent families into the Sponsored Program.

According to PhilHealth President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Eduardo P. Banzon, “the Negrenses are the true winners in this partnership. We have ironed things out about the need to increase the premium and in PhilHealth, we promised to deliver a more responsive benefit for all members”.

In a recent interview on ‘Dear PhilHealth' over Radio DZRH, Maranon said that PhilHealth helped their province a lot and that they are still increasing the number of families to be enrolled in the Sponsored Program. “Malaking tulong ang PhilHealth sa mga constituents, lalo na sa may sakit at naka-confine sa ospital,” he said.

Last year, the Negros Occidental Provincial Government and LGUs received P9,969,801.05 representing the PhilHealth Capitation Fund (PCF) while P28,712,132.22 was released to cities and municipalities implementing the Sponsored Program. The PCF is granted to LGUs to improve Rural Health Units/ Health Centers, purchase drugs and medicines, equipment and supplies and ensure the delivery of the outpatient benefit package to eligible SP members.

Marañon called on his fellow Local Chief Executives (LCEs) to support PhilHealth. “I would like to encourage other LGU officials to avail of the PhilHealth program because it will really help your constituents,” he said, adding that in Negros, “while we have another program on top of PhilHealth, ini-ensure pa rin namin ang mga indigent families.” (by Pinky G.
