First-ever Manila Bay Clean-up Run A SuccessAugust 4, 2011

The weather was fine, participants were all in uniform, and everyone was set to run not just for health reasons but for a worthy cause.

Some 200 employees of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) recently converged at the CCP complex to participate in the first-ever Manila Bay Clean-up Run organized by the Manila Broadcasting Company in celebration of the 72nd anniversary of the oldest AM radio station in the country, DZRH.

The event aims to support the project initiated by the City of Manila to protect the marine and coastal resources in the bay area and help minimize pollutants to restore the beauty and cleanliness of the Manila Bay.

PhilHealth Senior Vice President for Management Services Sector Octavino Q. Esguerra and Vice President and Deputy Chief Actuary Nerissa Santiago led the group in the three-kilometer run.

"For the past years, PhilHealth has been actively participating in various activities like this one in support of our media partner's advocacies," Esguerra said. "Running will keep us fit and strong... but running for a clean environment will make us even stronger and will help us live longer," he added.

The Biggest Delegation award was also given to PhilHealth which registered more than the required minimum number of paying entries. Aside from the trophy PhilHealth also received a cash prize of P5,000.00.

Other participating agencies were Land Bank of the Philippines, MLhuillier and Hyatt Hotel.
