In keeping with its commitment to equitable and compassionate healthcare, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) conducted its Stakeholders’ Forum for differently abled persons, a venue to inform them on National Health Insurance Program and to remind them of their responsibilities as PhilHealth members as well. The event is a reaffirmation of PhilHealth’s stance that PWDs are rightful beneficiaries of NHIP.
PhilHealth presents key developments including new benefits, the lifting of the 45-day benefit limit rule, updates on the Konsulta Program, enhanced services under the Universal Health Care (UHC) law, and coverage for Filipinos under special laws, ensuring that PWDs are actively included in the country’s health priorities.
Representatives from advocacy groups such as ICARE Ministry, Project Empower, the Pasig City Persons with Disability Affairs Office, among other participants attended the event, providing critical insights and engages in meaningful dialogue in an open forum segment.
Concerns and suggestions regarding participants' membership, access to benefits—particularly assistive mobility devices, the need for partnerships to broaden support for PWDs, and strategies to bridging the gap in benefits awareness. These issues are acknowledged and addressed by PhilHealth spokespersons and event speakers, who take note of specific, actionable input to enhance service delivery. PhilHealth also encourages participants to register in the Konsulta Program for preventive care and to actively take part in the collective goal of achieving universal health care for all Filipinos.
The stakeholders' participation strengthens collaborative efforts to make healthcare more inclusive and responsive.
"PhilHealth is for everyone. It includes everyone but excludes no one," said Dr. Israel Francis Pargas, PhilHealth's Senior Vice President for Health Finance Policy Sector. He also emphasized the importance of PhilHealth members' responsibilities in the NHIP.
With this initiative, PhilHealth continues to prove that inclusivity is not just a principle but a practice embedded in the nation’s health agenda.
