State health insurer PhilHealth is set to receive additional funds from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) to further increase its benefit packages that will provide greater financial risk protection for millions of Filipinos as envisioned under the Universal Health Care (UHC) Act of 2019.
Said amount represents PCSO's mandatory contributions for the first two quarters of CY 2024 amounting to PhP1.12 billion. These funds will be first remitted to the Bureau of Treasury and will be released to PhilHealth through the General Appropriations Act.
Under Rule IX, Section 37 (c) of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 11223, the PCSO is mandated to allocate 40 percent of its Charity Fund to expand PhilHealth’s coverage for hemodialysis, and Z benefit packages for cervical and prostate cancer, and post kidney transplant, among others.
On behalf of PhilHealth, Atty. Emily Roque expressed gratitude to PCSO for their continuing support that will help ensure better financial protection to all Filipinos against health risks.
