Koronadal City – The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) Regional Office (PRO) XII recently held its first round of Training of Trainers (TOT) on PhilHealth Learners’ Materials to Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health (MAPEH) teachers in the SoCCSKSarGen Region to instill the value of having social health insurance coverage to the region’s young citizens.
PhilHealth provided Grade 8 MAPEH teachers from the Schools Division of Sarangani, Gen. Santos, South Cotabato, Koronadal, Sultan Kudarat, Tacurong, North Cotabato and Kidapawan participated in the training. They gained valuable knowledge on Universal Health Care (UHC), Konsultasyong Sulit at Tama (Konsulta) Package – PhilHealth’s primary care benefit package, as well as access to PhilHealth instructional guide and electronic learning materials.
Luz Lalli Ferrer, DepEd RO XII Curriculum and Learning Management Division Chief, said the training was in time for their Department’s reformulation of implementing and coordinating policies, plans, programs, and projects in the areas of formal and non-formal basic education. “I encourage the teachers to align the target competencies in the PhilHealth materials to that of MATATAG competencies for smooth integration of concepts and better learning performance,” she said.
PRO XII Vice President, Dr. Hector Zenon Leonardo Malate, observed that the participants hold the unique responsibility of shaping the young minds of their learners; reiterating that these students will become agents of positive change in promoting their health and well-being and that of their families.
“UHC seeks to ensure that every Filipino, regardless of socioeconomic status, has access to quality health services. This training will equip you not only with the knowledge of the UHC framework, but also with the skills to effectively pass on vital knowledge to the youth. Therefore, fostering a culture of health literacy and empowerment in our schools. We firmly believe that by integrating health education into the classroom, we can cultivate healthier, more informed citizens who will contribute to building a stronger and more resilient nation,” he said.
Participants were also encouraged to work together, share insights, and ensure that every youth grasps the importance of social health insurance and their rights under the UHC Law, emphasizing their pivotal role in making the vision UHC a reality.
PhilHealth Region XII is set to conduct another round of training-workshops in other areas of the region as it fast-tracks their efforts to integrate learning on the UHC among Grade 8 students. END
