Outstanding PhilHealth partners feted March 21, 2019

Basa explains PhilHealth's breakthrough in achieving 98% coverage.

QUEZON CITY – The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) recently feted more than 20 outstanding private institutions, government and non-government organizations (NGOs) in recognition of their invaluable support in the fulfillment of PhilHealth's mandate of providing social health insurance services to the Filipino people.

During the event, Ruben John A. Basa, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of PhilHealth, shared the latest achievements of the Corporation in terms of partnership and networking. He emphasized that there is a need for PhilHealth to strengthen its support system in achieving 100% coverage, and that PhilHealth can never make it without the unity and support of its stakeholders.

For his part, PhilHealth Acting President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Roy B. Ferrer thanked the Program's loyal partners for their help in educating Filipinos about PhilHealth and shaping their belief about social solidarity. He also cited that the strict adherence to collection policies of PhilHealth's collecting partners resulted in increased PhilHealth fund.

The following Accredited Collecting Agents (ACAs) were recognized for their exemplary performance in 2018: Ventaja International Corporation for overseas collections; Security Bank Corporation for its Digibanker system for local collection; and China Banking Corporation for the large group category, Robinsons Bank Corporation for the medium group category, and Century Savings for small group category, all for their over-the-counter system for local collection.

Awardees for outstanding partners in implementing PhilHealth advocacy programs for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) were the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Overseas Placement Association of the Philippines (OPAP) for strengthening and making it mandatory for OFWs to attend the pre-departure orientation on the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP). The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) was also recognized for providing OFWs the convenience and easy access to PhilHealth services in its headquarters.

The Local Government of Sta. Rosa in Laguna; Province of Cebu; and Cagayan De Oro City were also cited as "Outstanding LGUs" for having the highest number of enrolment in the Sponsored Program with on time payment of premiums from 2016-2018 with no arrears.

Ferrer points out the importance of strong partnership with PhilHealth.

An award was also given to Lead with Integrity and Good Governance in Helping Communities for Holistic Transformation and the City Government of Calamba for achieving the highest number of enrolment in the Informal Sector under the PhilHealth iGroup Program. Meanwhile, the Coalition of Services of the Elderly was also cited for being an active non-governmental organization partner in ensuring the coverage of senior citizens in the NHIP.

Card MRI (2004) and Alay sa Kaunlaran Foundation Inc. were also recognized for their more than ten years of solid partnership with PhilHealth as well as for their untiring commitment to the provision of social health protection to the workers in the Informal Sector.

PhilHealth also awarded the following government institutions for providing support to the various programs of PhilHealth: Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA), Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process (OPAPP) and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Ferrer expressed gratitude to the awardees, saying that "Your PhilHealth family and I are grateful for your undying support all these years, your valuable contributions helped us to continuously deliver healthcare protection to everyone."


As a response, Cagayan De Oro City Councilor Dr. Maria Lourdes S. Gaane assured PhilHealth of their continued commitment in educating that every indigent Filipino about their rights with regards to their health.
