THE Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has recently chosen Dr. Shirley Bajamonde Domingo from its roster of senior officers as its new Vice President for Corporate Affairs and concurrently the Spokesperson of the 6,700-strong state health insurance agency.
Dr. Gigi, as she is fondly called, was born in Catbalogan, Samar but her family hails from Manila.
She earned her Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center (UERMMC) and took up her Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of the Philippines.
She held various positions in the Department of Health, notable of which as Head Executive Assistant to the late Secretary Alberto Romualdez from 1998 to 2000.
She transferred to PhilHealth in 2002 as Senior Manager of the Human Resource Department wherein she ably participated in the Ad Hoc Committee that was in charge with managing the change process that the Corporation had undergone as a result of Corporate Reengineering.
She was promoted as Vice President in 2007 and since then headed various departments and sectors which includes the Quality Assurance Group and National Capital Region. She was also designated as Officer-in-Charge Senior Vice President for the Health Finance Policy and Management Services Sector from 2016 to 2017.
For Dr. Gigi, being PhilHealth’s Spokesperson is truly a challenging job, but sincerely believes that her positive outlook in life, her many years in dedicated public service, and her genuine concern for the success of the National Health Insurance Program are among those that motivate her to take on the job.
