In line with PhilHealth’s 20th Anniversary with the theme “Ensuring Universal Health Coverage for All Filipinos,” the second simultaneous run dubbed “PhilHealth, Ready, TSeKaP, Go!” kicked off in 13 sites nationwide was held last February 15, 2015.
In PhilHealth Regional Office-I (PRO 1), the running event took place at the CSI City Mall grounds in Dagupan City. Amidst several challenges, PRO 1 was able to register 2,113 runners with a total amount of Php738,400.00. Not less than 1,500 attended and participated in the actual run.
The program commenced with a warm welcome message from Regional Vice President Leo Douglas V. Cardona, Jr., M.D., as he highlighted the purpose of the running event and expressed his gratitude for the support given by the stakeholders and corporate partners through their sponsorship.
PRO 1 was able to solicit from its partner institutions a total of P2.4M worth of support. About 80 percent of the total net proceeds of the generated funds through sponsorship and registration fees will be donated to PRO 1’s chosen beneficiary institution - DSWD Region 1, The Haven-Regional Center for Women. The Haven takes care of and shelters women who are victims of physical and psychological abuse.
Support teams, first aid stations, mini-hospitals, water stations, ambulances and medical teams were strategically posted in different sites within the venue to ensure the runners’ safety and protection. This was made possible through the assistance of Philippine Red Cross-Pangasinan Chapter, CSI The City Mall, Region 1 Medical Center, City Government of Dagupan, Philippine National Police (PNP)-Dagupan City, Public Order and Safety Office (POSO)-Dagupan City, and all official of barangays in Dagupan City.
To warm-up the participants, a zumba fitness exercise dance was led by PRO1 Cares Ricardo T. Nastor, and at exactly 5am, the gun start was fired to formally commence PhilHealth Run 2015.
Various booths were set-up to give color and to add fun to the running event. Cash prizes for the men’s and women’s category, and scholarship grants from AMA Computer College-Dagupan City were awarded to the winners. Finisher’s certificates were also given to all the runners who finished the race, while finisher’s medals were awarded to the participants for the 20K category.
