PhilHealth President guests in ANC's Headstart October 19, 2012

PHILHEALTH President and CEO Dr. Eduardo P. Banzon recently graced the early morning public affairs program "Headstart" at the ABS-CBN News Channel, making a statement on various topics affecting the Philippine health care sector today.

Among the topics discussed with host Karen Davila was the Sin Tax Bill which is currently being debated in Congress and how it will affect the state-run PhilHealth and its members. Banzon stressed that the said bill is about improving health and that it will definitely help accelerate the realization of Universal Health Care program of the government when passed and signed into law.

Especially mentioned by Davila are Pedicab drivers needing health protection and how they can avail of the program considering that they have little means to be able to pay contributions. Banzon acknowledged that the bigger challenge for PhilHealth is how to register the urban poor in Metro Manila.

He also talked about PhilHealth's shift to more case-based arrangements to make reimbursements faster, and the deployment of more than 500 nurses to various hospitals nationwide to make benefit availment easier for PhilHealth members. (Documentation by Amelita L. Buted, CorComm)
