September 7, 2010
NOT yet a PhilHealth member?
The Department of Health and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) are calling on all Filipinos who are not yet members of PhilHealth to register on Saturday, October 2 and be counted among the millions who are now covered by the government's health insurance program.
Dubbed "PhilHealth Sabado, Magseguro, Magparehistro," the whole-day registration activity is aimed at ensuring that all Filipinos gain access to financial protection for their hospitalization needs. "In particular, we would like to reach out to our fellowmen who are not yet members but who have the financial means to pay for their premium contributions," said PhilHealth President and CEO Dr. Rey B. Aquino.
All Regional and Service Offices of PhilHealth, as well as the DOH's Centers for Health Development and DOH-retained hospitals nationwide have been identified as access points for the registration activity. Other registration venues will be announced as soon as these are confirmed with the Department of Education (DepEd) and with participating local government units.
The desks will be manned by PhilHealth personnel who will assist the registrants in the entire registration procedure. "We encourage those who are financially capable of paying for their premium contributions to register under our Individually Paying Program," Aquino said. Prospective registrants under this program must bring any valid ID card, and P300.00 as one quarter premium payment. "Those who wish to declare their legal dependents outright may bring photocopies of supporting documents such as birth certificates, marriage contract, and senior citizen's ID of parents," Aquino emphasized.
During the whole-day event, indigent families who are listed under the National Household Targeting System (NHTS) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will also be issued their PhilHealth Number Cards in venues to be identified by the local government units.
"We really hope to capture a significant portion of our target member population to register with us and be able to sustain their membership for their own good," Aquino said.
To date, PhilHealth has registered about 20 million principal members, 3.42 million of which are individually paying members. (END)
