PhilHealth Mobile Officer Back in Hongkong and Macau

January 25, 2010
MEMBERS of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) working in Hongkong and Macau are in for some good news: the PhilHealth mobile officer will again be visiting the island territories soon to address their various concerns.
"From January 24 to February 7, our mobile officer will resume her post at the Philippine Consulate General's Office to entertain queries from our OFW-members," PhilHealth President and CEO Dr. Rey B. Aquino said. "The service desk in Hongkong will run from January 24 to February 3, and in Macau from February 4 to 5," he said.
Aquino also emphasized that this initiative is in line with corporate efforts to further educate OFW-members about their PhilHealth membership and provide direct assistance to their needs where their PhilHealth coverage is concerned.
"We are re-establishing our presence in Hongkong and in Macau in response to the clamor of our OFW members for us to be there and personally attend to their PhilHealth concerns," Aquino said.
Based on the turnout of the second visit of the mobile officer in October last year, Aquino said that it was apparent that increased presence and participation in OFW activities in the former Crown Colony and in the "Little Europe of Asia" is desired, especially since most of the OFWs in Hongkong and Macau are not yet aware of their rights and responsibilities as PhilHealth members. "That is why we keep on going back to these two countries to be able to spread the good news about their PhilHealth coverage," he said.
Paulina B. Taguinod, the mobile officer, visited Hongkong and Macau in August and October last year. During the October trip, thousands of reading materials and registration forms were distributed to OFWs who visited the PhilHealth desk.
She also distributed forms and information materials in missions and meetings with Filipino communities and handled over 200 premium payment transactions. She also accommodated media guestings in Filipino broadcast programs and strengthened media exposures, particularly in publications being read by Filipinos.
Interested OFW organizations in Hongkong and Macau may visit Taguinod at the Philippine Consulate-General's Office and schedule orientations on the National Health Insurance Program while she is in these countries. (END)
