February 26, 2010

SOME 2,241 indigent families from Aparri, Cagayan recently received their PhilHealth cards from the local government unit, led by Mayor Ismael V. Tumaru and the Provincial Government of Cagayan represented by Engr. Tito Perlas, the Provincial Administrator.

The distribution of cards was held in simple ceremonies at the Municipal Gymnasium and at the Community Center, Bangag, Aparri, Cagayan, paving the way for the coverage of the families for at least one year.

In his message, Tumaru persuaded the beneficiaries to be active PhilHealth members by maximizing the benefits they could get from the program through the accredited health care providers and from the Outpatient Benefit Package available at accredited Rural Health Units.

He also said that with their enlistment into the NHIP, these families now have access to quality health care benefits. He even encouraged them to continuously update themselves with the latest policies by visiting any of PhilHealth’s offices and to report any irregularity that they might experience in the hospitals or with doctors.

The LGU is now on its third year of partnership with PhilHealth. Tumaru cited the PhilHealth Service Office in Aparri, Cagayan for the vital role it plays in disseminating information to all his enrollees, adding that the Service Office is very accessible.

Also present during the ID distribution ceremony were Cliño Nonito Mallillin, concurrent PhRO2 FOD chief, Sangguniang Bayan officials and department heads of the LGU. (by Samuel Morillo, PhRO 2)
