PhilHealth, Medical City Launch Good Hospital Practice Training Sessions - March 2007
THE Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) and The Medical City recently launched the Good Hospital Practice (GHP) Training Sessions to equip hospital staffmembers with the necessary tools to enable them to cope with the standards set forth by the PhilHealth Benchbook.
In simple ceremonies held at The Medical City recently, Lorna O. Fajardo, Acting President and CEO stressed that the series of trainings will offer ways to effectively address the growing expectations of patients, payors of care and the general public for safe and quality patient care. "These training sessions are designed to help hospital staffmembers meet the standards prescribed by the Benchbook, a tool that we introduced in 2004 to ensure the highest quality of medical care for our members," she said.
The GHP training series has modules on medication safety and management, quality improvement, nutrition assessment and therapy, informed consent, end-of-life care, patients chart documentation and legibility, sedation and restraints, infection control and safe hospital environment.
Given the new hospital accreditation standards espoused by the PhilHealth Benchbook, hospitals are prompted to demostrate clear evidence of quality, safety and productivity. "The shift from minimum or baseline levels of resources and processes to maximum achievable levels of patient-centered outcomes requires hospitals to further improve on the quality of their services that will eventually redound to the benefit of our members," Fajardo added.
The training series, which is recommended for all health care professionals and administrators of health care institutions, will also be held at The Medical City Auditorium from March to October this year and will be replicated in different hospitals within the National Capital Region as well as in the regions through PhilHealth's Regional Offices nationwide.
