RP Hosts International Meet on Social Security - October 10, 2006
THE International Social Security Association (ISSA) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific recently conducted the ISSA Regional Training Course at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati City. The five-day meet was aimed at expanding the knowledge of participants on social security concerns, upgrade their proficiency in social security operations and actuarial practices. It was participated in by 71 participants from 15 countries in the Region.
In his address, Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III said that a meeting of the minds among social security implementors was crucial and that developing economies must strike a balance between providing sufficient safety nets and ensuring the relevance of the benefits and the long-term sustainability of social security programs.
The international meet was co-organized by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), the Social Security System (SSS), and the Philippine Social Security Association (PHILSSA).
