600 Pasig Families Receive PhilHealth Cards - June 13, 2006

A TOTAL of 622 indigent families in Pasig City recently received their identification cards from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) through the "Serbisyo Muna" Caravan of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

The enrolment of indigent families was made possible by the national government through PhilHealth’s Plan 2.5M wherein 3,000 families from Pasig were allocated for coverage. The first release of PhilHealth ID cards was given to 1,300 families earlier.

With the PhilHealth ID card, the enrolled families may avail themselves of the regular hospitalization benefit package provided by PhilHealth in any of its accredited hospitals and other institutional health care providers nationwide. The city government has yet to adopt the regular Sponsored Program of PhilHealth which provides for out-patient diagnostic benefits through accredited rural health units in the LGU.

Pasig City has its own blue card for senior citizens, the yellow card for indigents and the green card for employees of the City Hall. Benefits under the yellow card can only be availed of at the Pasig City General Hospital.

Present during the ID distribution ceremonies were Dr. Leo Douglas V. Cardona and Jose Sidfrey Panganiban, Manager and Marketing Head, respectively, of PhilHealth’s NCR South Branch. Pasig City Vice Mayor Rosalio "Yoyong" Martirez and Councilor Bobby Eusebio appreciated PhilHealth's efforts in providing quality health care. "Through the Sponsored Program of PhilHealth even the poor families and their dependents can avail themselves of the benefits." Also present were PAGCOR Corporate Communications Head Edward King, Berna Romulo-Puyat and Roman Romulo.

Aside from the PhilHealth ID distribution, residents of Pasig were also given the opportunity to avail themselves of free medical and dental check-up, water service connection applications, free medicines, and passport renewals. Free kilos of rice were also distributed to school children courtesy of other participating government agencies in the Serbisyo Caravan.

Maricar Caruncho, a resident of Barangay Caniogan, Pasig, presents the mock-up of the Family Health Card she received as a bonafide member of PhilHealth during the recent ID distribution ceremonies at the Pasig Sports Center. With her are (L-R): Dr. Leo Douglas Cardona, PhilHealth NCR-South Manager, Rosalio Martirez, Pasig City Vice Mayor, Jose Sidfrey Panganiban, PhilHealth NCR-South Marketing Head and Roman Romulo.
