PhilHealth Launches New Maternity Care Package - May 30, 2003

THE Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) today launched the new Maternity Care Package for Normal Spontaneous Delivery (NSD) covering up to second childbirth. The new package is available to all PhilHealth members starting May 1, 2003.

PhilHealth President and CEO Dr. Francisco T. Duque III says, an individually paying member who enrols after July 1, 2003 should comply with the rule of sufficient regularity of premium contributions and should have at least nine (9) months or three (3) quarters of premium payments in the immediate twelve (12) months prior to delivery to qualify for the said package.

The new package offers a case rate of P4,500.00 which shall be paid to PhilHealth-accredited health care providers. Of this amount, P2,000.00 will go to the doctor’s fees and P2,500.00 to the hospital for various expense items. While the said package can only subsidize partial payment for the total hospitalization fees, it can substantially reduce members’ expenses for their confinements.

“This package is in line with the Arroyo administration’s thrust to provide quality health care to Filipino women especially to mothers,” Duque said, adding that “...only women ages 19 to 35 years old who are said to be at low risk will be considered under this package.”

The package may be availed of through any of PhilHealth’s accredited lying-in, maternity and ambulatory clinics, rural health units and hospitals nationwide.

Members and their qualified dependents may avail of the package so long as they have satisfied the criteria of eligibility and regularity of premium contributions.

For more information about the new package, members may call PhilHealth’s Healthline at 637-9999 locals 1218 and 1227.
